How to backup broken hard drive that has lot of bad sectors?

 

Clonezilla is great tool to do hard backup or recover broken hard drive. Clonezilla is based on Debian linux and is available to everyone with GPL licence. Clonezilla currently supports ext2, ext3, ext4, reiserfs, xfs, jfs of GNU/Linux, FAT, NTFS of MS Windows, and HFS+ of Mac OS. Therefore you can clone GNU/Linux, MS windows and Intel-based Mac OS, no matter it's 32-bit (x86) or 64-bit (x86-64) OS. For these file systems, only used blocks in partition are saved and restored. For unsupported file system, sector-to-sector copy is done by dd in Clonezilla.

 

1. Get Clonezilla live CD (http://clonezilla.org/) and boot your computer using it

2.  Choose language when prompted

3.  Choose keyboard layout and select: Don't touch keymap if you are using US keyboard and select keymap from arch list if you use other keyboard

4. Choose start clonezilla

5. Choose which way you want to copy (Device to image) or (Device to device)

6. Choose (local_dev) as your image home

7. Plug in your external USB hdd or memorystick and wait for 5sec for linux to recognize plugged hardware

8. Select device that is used as image repository

9. Start in cloning either in Beginner or Expert mode (Beginner mode is recommenned)

10.  Select (restore disk) as your cloning mode

11. Select image name and target disk

12. Review your options and hit (enter) to start cloning

How to repair broken CD-drive latch spring in Philips computers

 

1. Unscrew screws that holds sidepanel in place, and take sidepanel out. Usually 2 screws in the back.

2. Unscrew screws that hold the rest 2/3's of the covers in place. Usually 1 screw on top in the backside and two on the side.

3. Gently pull back the remaining cover

4. Unhinge black plastic "locks" both sides and slide the front panel out, remember to unplug all wires that are going to the front panel before taking the panel out.

5. Replace the broken spring

6. Assemble the machine back together and you're all done

1. Open your booklet in acrobat reader

2. Go to print setup and set orientation to landscape

3. Go to (File - Print)

4. Select Page scaling to be Booklet Printing

5. If you have automatic duplex printing it's generally good to tick on "auto-rotate pages" below Booklet printing

6. Check your printer properties if necessary and click Print

2. Specify new file

HP Printer not printing duplex PDF Print E-mail

If HP Laserjet 9500n is not printing duplex or even showing it as an option, choose PCL6 driver from HP website. Delete the printer from your added printers and add it again using this time the PCL6 driver. When prompted select 9500n PCL mpf from list. This should give you duplex printing option.
